Audition for singers 2025

Vadstena-Akademien hereby invites applicants for scholarships in the summer of 2025.
Last day for digital audition* application is November 17, 2024.
Information:
In 2025 we will produce Alessandro in Susa by Luigi Mancia from 1708 (sung in Italian, baroque pitch 415 Hz) – a world premiere in modern time – and the one-act opera Den Starkare by Margareta Hallin from 1991 (sung in Swedish, pitch 442 Hz).

To apply you should have begun advanced vocal studies or have equivalent experience.
You are born in 1990 or later.
Period (exact dates to be updated): June 16th – August 12th 2025. Location: Vadstena, Sweden.
Characters of the baroque opera and audition materials:
(Preferably accompanied by harpsichord in 415 Hz, but piano in 442 Hz is also accepted​.)

Alessandro – alto or countertenor or low mezzosoprano
Alexander the Great. Arrogant-vulnerable, confident-remorseful. A scenic and vocal challenge!

Statira – lyric soprano
The Persian princess, conquered. The heart of the story.

Campaspe – soprano
Ex mistress of Alexander. Manipulative, sexy, always scheming.

Calistene – bass/bassbaritone
The philosopher and the brain of the story. Lots of coloratura.

Promaco – bass buffo
The general and the sword of the story. A comic character.

Antigona – mezzosoprano: Small part, Campaspes lady’s maid, will also sing Mademoiselle Y in Den Starkare. See more below.

Both characters are on stage from the first to last note. Even though Strindberg portrayed M:lle Y as a silent part, Hallin didn’t. A lot of acting will be required.
If you receive these scholarships, you will also participate in Alessandro in Susa. Mademoiselle Y as Antigona (a small part) and Madame X as Apelle, a painter (ensemble).

* We will also be visiting Swedish Universities of Performing Arts, doing live auditions.
Please note that you can apply BOTH digitally and IRL, or just one of these.
Digital and live auditions are of the exact same value in the recruitment of singers.
